Lisa "HYKES UP" fitness!

Lisa Hykes joined our Y back in June and has been busy "hiking" up the level of fitness around here ever since!  Lisa is very approachable and LOVES to help and talk!  She fills in for group fitness instructors when necessary and has been introducing some new exercise classes as well.

Moving here from North Carolina, Lisa began her Y career in 1989.  She comes to us with a Bachelors of Science in Wellness Leadership from the University of South Florida, is ACE Gold Certified as a Group Exercise Instructor and an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.  She is certified to teach IFTA Pilates, Piyo Live, YogaFit and other classes as well.

 

 

 

Lisa

Lisa began teaching group fitness classes at the age of 19 (back in the day of leotards and leg warmers).  She has been in the field for over 30 years.

Her hobbies include reading, walking, playing with her dogs and attack cat and paper crafts.

Wellness Center – Features Matrix cardiovascular equipment, Life Fitness pin-loaded weight equipment, & free weights. Newer to the facility is a Life Fitness Circuit Series line offering resistance bands instead of weights which is ideal for beginners.

Wellness Coaches Lisa Hykes, Wendi Winstead, Christian Rodriguez, Bardon Moore, Shannon Gainey and Naquea Jordan are available to help with questions about how to use the equipment as well as FitPath.  Upon joining (or anytime afterward), members may schedule an appointment with a Wellness Coach for a FitPath orientation or an orientation to learn how to use the equipment.

    FitPath powered by ActivTrax–FitPath is a web-based virtual trainer that allows members to access personalized workouts and nutrition resources. FitPath comes free with all memberships and helps to jump start your healthy lifestyle! Following a FitPath orientation to gather baseline information about your workout history and goals, your Wellness Coach will give you a tutorial on how to use the workout and nutrition program. Click here to download a sample workout.

Personal Training – For people who want the motivation and guidance of a certified trainer, we offer personal training. Group Fitness – For people who prefer to work out in a group setting, we offer approximately 35 group fitness classes per week. From Step, to Pilates, to Cycling, & Power Cut, our classes offer a variety of routines that can be tailored to any fitness level.  We include classes for kids 5-12, seniors, members just starting out, or even members recovering from an illness or injury.  Our studios feature a floating wood floor that is forgiving on the joints as well as equipment for each class. You don't have to call ahead...just show up. Cycling Studio – Cycling classes offer a high intensity cardiovascular workout in an encouraging group atmosphere.  Led by an instructor, bike your way over hills through the valleys on your journey to health.  

Water Aerobics –  Taught at the Hampton Inn (indoor pool), Splash class offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve health.  You do not need know how to swim to take the class.  WATER AEROBICS IS TEMPORARILY ON HOLD DUE TO MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH THE POOL AT THE HAMPTON INN. THIS CLASS WILL RETURN TO THE GROUP FITNESS SCHEDULE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. CHECK BACK HERE OR  LIKE US ON FACEBOOK TO BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE POOL IS REOPENED.      

Silver Sneakers & Silver & Fit  - are group fitness classes designed to help improve balance, maintain strength, and provide an opportunity for fellowship. Participants may either stand or use a chair for more stability. Click here to download a silver sneaker class schedule with descriptions.

   Leigh Butler –Leigh is certified to teach Pilates and Circuit. She can most likely be found in the gym playing Pickleball if she's not teaching group fitness!

Shannon Gainey –   Shannon has been working with the YMCA for 14 years and has a passion for group fitness. She has held YMCA group fitness and personal training certifications for over 13 years. She works in many different areas at the Y and is dedicated to helping people reach their fitness goals! Shannon teaches Body Sculpting, Burst! and is certified to teach SilverSneakers classes.

Lisa Hykes - Graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Wellness Leadership.  She has been teaching group fitness classes for over 30 years.  Lisa holds a Gold Certification as Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer Certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) as well as YMCA Strength Training Instructor Certification, YMCA Fitness Specialist Certification, IFTA Pilates, Piyo Live and YogaFit certifications.


  Marilyn LeGrow –  Graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1975 and practicing in various areas of the clinical and private sector, Marilyn's passion evolved to chronic disease prevention. Group Fitness merged perfectly with her passion urging her to become a certified Group Fitness instructor in 2006.  She teaches Step Aerobics, Zumba, Zumba Gold, Cycling, Splash, Cardio Fit, Circuit, Classic, Yoga and Pilates.  Marilyn also serves as the Community Health Program Specialist for the YMCA's Community Health Program.

  Joy Phillips –  Joy has been teaching fitness classes for half of her life and loves it!  She teaches Advanced Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, Silver Sneakers Classic, Power Cut, and Step Aerobics. Her passion is to help people realize the benefits of regularly exercising to stay mentally and physically strong, balanced, and comfortable with themselves.

  Brenda Robinson –  Brenda is a retired school teacher of 35 years who decided to incorporate her love of teaching and exercise into becoming a Certified Group Fitness Instructor. She teaches Pilates, Silver Sneakers Classic, Yoga, Cardio Fit, Cycling, Fit Ball Toning, Step Aerobics and Kid Fit. She enjoys running half marathons and has taught the Run for God 5K Training Program in the past.

  Christian Rodriguez –  Christian is certified to teach Pilates and also works in the Wellness Center at the Y. In his free time Christian volunteers on the local rescue squad. 

  Ashley Stainback -  Ashley is certified to teach Zumba, Zumba Toning, Circuit, and SilverSneakers Classic.  Ashley's enthusiasm and passion for Zumba make working out fun!

Rockwall hours: Spanning 27 feet in the air, our outdoor climbing wall is open April-October: Tuesday &  Thursday 3 pm-6 pm or by appointment.  The rockwall is open to everyone age 6 or over.   

November-March: by appointment only

Walking Track – Want to stay mobile?  W A L K !   In 17.5 laps you can walk (or run) a mile in safety and comfort in an indoor space snow, rain or shine!  Open during regular business hours, our track is accessible by stairs or elevator.

Gymnasium - Get your workout playing basketball, volleyball or pickleball!  Click here to download a current gymnasium schedule. Closing thirty minutes prior to normal business hours, the gymnasium is ready for basketball, pickleball other activities.  Side basketball nets can be lowered by staff to accommodate small children who are playing with their parents.  On Tuesday nights at 6 pm, come in for an adult full court sign-up recreational basketball game! Click here to download the gymnasium schedule for the summer of 2017.

 

For everyone curious about pickleball, we have all the equipment you need to learn and plenty of avid players to show you how!
